Yesterday I finished GPSing out the Recapture Canyon Trail. It was around 105 degrees in the canyon. It was one hot day. But the upper part of the canyon trail is complete, and I finished the map last night. I hope to have it on my website with in the next week.

Again yesterday I ran into several archaeological sites just like last time. The site I looked at appeared to date back to Pueblo II. This date is a guess based on some ceramic shards that I examined. It is really a very neat area. There is a great article on Recapture Canyon in the latest Blue Mountain Shadow. It talks about the lost Spanish gold, the popcorn size nuggets that the gold mine was pulling out, and the canyons importants as a mail route. It is a great article to read to get a run down on the history of the canyon. Here is a link to find the issue and order it if you want.

Well the map for Recapture looks great. This is not an approved BLM trail but it is backed by SPEAR, and those that matter. We are working on another trail project for around the Blanding area. It is going to be really neat when it's finished. If you live in Blanding you will be able to leave your house on your ATV and take a number of different trails for the day or just for a few hours. It will be really neat.  Cool

I just finished doing some work in the upper end of Recapture Canyon just northwest of the Reservoir, and encountered several well perserved ruins. There is one site in there that is still totally mudded and hard to see because it blends right into the cliff. This canyon is amazing and I hope to spend some time kicking around in it. Shocked
